Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a professional to join the Texas A&M University Libraries as Project Cataloger. This is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer with an annual contract for two years and potentially renewable for a third year. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries through the Director of Cushing Memorial Library and Archives, the Project Cataloger will perform both copy and original cataloging for Cushing Library’s collection materials.
include: perform copy cataloging, enhance OCLC and Voyager records, and perform original cataloging for Cushing Library’s collection materials, including monographs and serials; follow cataloging rules and best practices; follow and apply internal policies and guidelines; provide bi-weekly oral reports and written reports as needed; support and promote the Libraries and Texas A&M shared vision and values; other duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution or international equivalent;
- Demonstrated experience performing copy cataloging and original cataloging for monographs;
- Experience using a library management system, such as Voyager;
- Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging best practices;
- Demonstrated knowledge with MARC format and cataloging rules, including RDA, AACR2, LCSH, and LCC;
- Experience with OCLC Connexion Client;
- Working knowledge of standard catalog reference tools;
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for handling fragile materials;
- Ability to follow directions and apply internal policies and guidelines;
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment;
- Excellent attention to detail;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population
- Experience working with rare book/special collections;
- Serials cataloging experience;
- Working knowledge of a language in addition to English;
- Experience cataloging multiple physical formats;
- Ability to identify and flag conservation and preservation needs of collections;
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results with minimal supervision.

Currently the staffing includes 268 individuals which includes 90 librarians holding faculty status.

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $48,000. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA-CREF; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
